I’m back this month with another Bright Idea post. If you are like me, you have been through several changes in reading series. This is my tenth year teaching and my fourth reading series. I’m a bit of a book hoarder and I hate to get rid of all those leveled readers that come with the series. In the past, I’ve sent books home with students who need some extra help reading but I still have a bunch left.
So, this year, I have created two crates of Buddy Books.
I took this picture before I added books to the middle crate.
I put several copies (2-4) of each reader in a gallon sized Ziploc baggie. During reading rotations, students can choose to read from the Buddy Books crate. Most of these books are also AR books so they can take a test on the books after they have finished.
These leveled readers are rarely chosen when they are placed in an AR tub or in the classroom library. I know these books will be a hit because my students always love to read with a buddy and I know that most of my students can read these books successfully.
